John Paul Jones apparently did let slip that the band are looking for a new frontman.

However, that Zep are looking for a Plant replacement is no longer in doubt. eGigs.co.uk report that at a recent Q&A session the bassist revealed that they were pushing on with their plans.

"I'm afraid there's no final answer yet,” he apparently told the audience. “Jimmy, Jason and I are actually rehearsing and we've had the odd singer come in and have a bash. But we really hope that something is going to happen soon because we really want to do it and we're having a lot of fun just rehearsing.

"We really want to do something and Robert doesn't want to do this for the moment. I don't really know what his plans are. He really doesn't want to make loud music anymore. But what we've done so far sounds absolutely fantastic. When it does come, it will come and you'll know about it.

"It's got to be right. There's no point in just finding another Robert. You could get that out of a tribute band, but we don't want to be our own tribute band. There would be a record and a tour, but everyone has to be on board."

Former Soundgarden/ Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell has cagily thrown his hat into the ring for the "Led Zep" frontman job.

Speaking to MTV News the singer said that he’d heard his name mentioned in relation to the new Page/Bonham/Jones band and although he hadn’t been asked yet he wasn’t going to deny that it could happen.

“I have not been approached so far to fill in for Robert Plant on the upcoming Zeppelin tour, but that isn't to say I won't be,” he told MTV.

“I've heard that from about 200 people now, and it might be one of those situations where it's just an online rumour or it might be true.” Cornell continued. “But if you see anyone from Led Zeppelin around, let me know. I think I should actually fill in for Jimmy Page on the Robert Plant/ Alison Krauss tour.”

Meanwhile, Billboard magazine have been told by their sources that Alter Bridge frontman Myles Kennedy is the current frontrunner.

Other names mentioned in relation to the vacant slot have included Jack White from the White Stripes (who has denied any involvement), the Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl (who sang with Jones & Page at Wembley earlier this year) and former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar.

It's widely expected that whatever form the band finally takes, they won't be calling themselves Led Zeppelin.

no, non sarà una reunion...quella c'è gia stata al'O2 di Londra e Plant x qualche motivo non ne vuole+ sapere...diversamente agli Yes snza Anderson non saranno Zep senza il loro lead singer...

Durante un recente incontro Dve Coverdale ha suggerito a Page di fare come ha fatto Santana....circondandsi di collaboratori eccellenti piuttosto che con un cantante solo che mai potrebbe rimpiazzare Plant....Si è offerto x una song e ha suggerito Jim Elliot...

In un intervista con Ruth Jones su BBC Radio Galles Plant dice che è troppo vecchio x il palco con gli Zep....dice all'intervistatore: "sai quanto ci ho messo a salir su questo palcoscenico??? e sono solo 4 gradini!"Comunque non è contrario al progetto di un disco e un tour che intraprenderanno gli altri compagni. Lui prepara il seguito del disco di cover con Alison Krauss....


Plant “Too Old” For Zep Reunion

"Robert Plant has revealed that the reason that he won’t be joining Led Zeppelin on tour is because he is “too old.”

In an interview by Gavin & Stacey star Ruth Jones on BBC Radio Wales, Percy says that he simply couldn’t manage a tour around the world playing to large arenas. Asked by Jones about the possibility of a Zep tour he said "Do you know how long it took me to climb up onto the stage here - and it's only four steps!"

But despite the decision not to join he fully supports their current touring plans.
"I'm doing very well with Alison (Krauss) and I'm enjoying that. I still see Jimmy quite a lot and he's very complimentary and supportive of what I'm doing. But we are in different places now and you have to go on to do different things."

As we recently reported, Plant is due to head back into the studio with Krauss to record a follow up to their 2007 covers album Raising Sand.

Page, Jones and Bonham, meanwhile, have been auditioning singers for the past couple of months with a view to an entirely new project that would likely include a new album and a world tour."
