No! sapevamo che ormai era malato da tempo ma non si è mai preparati alla morte di un grande come lui. A parte la connessione con i Genesis per via del suo amico Phil, che gli produsse Glorious Fool, John era un innovatore della scena folk-rock, ascoltare per credere Solid Air.

Phil aveva suonato con John Giblin nel precedente Grace and Danger mentre in Glorios Fool - che come dicevi ha prodotto - si era portato Eric Clapton...

In 1981 I was lucky enough to be in the Townhouse Studio with both John Martyn and Phil Collins just as Phil was playing John the latest mixes of 'Glorious Fool'. I thought it sounded staggeringly good and told them so at the time. John's world weary but soulful vocals complemented by Phil's compressed and ambient drums sounded wonderfully original. It's a very magical album. Don't just take my word for it... track it down and give it another listen...
Over the years I've made no secret of my belief in survival after death, so I'm inclined to wish John all the best on his journey from this world to the next, with love from Steve and all his other fans to an irreplaceable one-off. Those about to rock salute you, John!

Ho molti suoi dischi, della serie con Collins alla batteria o alla produzione, che non ho ancora potuto ascoltare a fondo. Credo questa sia la migliore occasione per omaggiare la sua memoria approfondendo la sua discografia.
